THE ELEPHANT MAN to be Presented at Theater Wit in Chicago
Jeff Award nominees Billy Surges and Katherine Schwartz star in Bernard Pomerance's classic play.
Surging Films & Theatrics will have their production of The Elephant Man take the stage at Theater Wit this summer. Starring Jeff Award nominees Billy Surges and Katherine Schwartz as John Merrick and Mrs. Kendal and Surging veteran Tony Calkins as Frederick Treves, the production will run June 12th through June 28th in theater one at Theater Wit. Conor Frank steps in as director for Surging this season with a poignant vision for the classic play. There will be live music played by Joey Calumet and Lukas Ptacek.
Bernard Pomerance's The Elephant Man is a play based on the life of John Merrick, a severely deformed man in Victorian London who is rescued from a sideshow by Dr. Frederick Treves. It explores humanity, dignity, and exploitation, as Merrick is integrated into high society but struggles to define his own identity and normality.
Featuring performances from Ted Dayton, Tim Huggenberger, Will Knox, Muggs Leone, Rocco Renda, and Francesca Zaccor and understudies Ben Perry and Emma Widlowski, this production is not to be missed.
