Duluth Playhouse will present one of William Shakespeare's most fast-paced and delightfully chaotic comedies as The Comedy of Errors takes the stage at the NorShor Theatre, running May 29 - June 7, 2026.

Shipwrecked and separated 33 years earlier, two sets of long-lost twins find themselves in the same city on the same day, sparking a whirlwind of mistaken identities, misguided love, wrongful arrests, and increasingly absurd encounters. As confusion mounts and chaos reigns, a blend of slapstick humor and sharp wit drives the story toward a joyful and heartwarming resolution.

This production embraces both the hilarity and humanity of the text, offering audiences a fresh, lively take on a classic story of family, fate, and reunion that feels immediate and relatable. Reimagined through a distinctly modern lens, it uses a heightened visual style that sharpens the comedy and reframes the story for today's audiences.

James Alexander Rankin and Matthew Olsen star as the Antipholus brothers, with Phillip Hoelscher and Hunter Ramsden as their servants, the Dromios, driving the production's fast-paced comedy. Playhouse regulars Alyson Enderle and Jess Hughes return to the stage as Adriana and Luciana after appearing together in Home, I'm Darling last season, joined by Tom Angland, recently seen in Dial M for Murder, as Egeon, and Christine Winkler Johnson as the Abbess.

The broader world of the play is brought to life by an ensemble of local favorites, including Agatha Pokrzywinski, Ian Wallin, Dan Prevette, Antony Ferguson, Jackson Ramler, Luke Hiland, John Ryde-Crane, and Jacque Black, many of whom take on multiple roles throughout the play.

Director Sean Naughton says, “I've had so many community members tell me how excited they are, not only about this cast but also about Duluth Playhouse bringing Shakespeare back to the NorShor Theatre. The Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare's earliest (and funniest) plays and it's just a pleasure to watch this talented ensemble every night in rehearsal bringing the humor and the heart that this work demands and deserves.”

Whether audiences are die-hard Shakespeare fans or discovering this classic for the first time, The Comedy of Errors promises an evening of nonstop laughter, heartfelt moments, and a reminder that even the wildest circumstances can't break the bonds of family.
