StoryBook Theatre's TOP SECRET MUSICAL Is Back With Two Performances Of The Popular Fundraising Concert Event

StoryBook Theatre has announced their annual fundraiser, Top Secret Musical, onstage October 30, has sold out in record time. Due to the high demand for tickets, an encore performance has been added on November 1. While SBT recognizes that keeping the show a secret for the second-night audience will be challenging, patrons still purchase tickets without knowing the musical's title. The yearly presentation is a highlight of the local theatre season, featuring many of Calgary's brightest musical theatre stars and up-and-coming local artists.

"I was inspired by the idea that there might be enough 'musical theatre super-fans' in Calgary that would buy tickets to a show without having any idea what they were about to see," says JP Thibodeau, Artistic Producer. "There's the element of wanting to be surprised. There's also a bonding experience that comes from being with other arts enthusiasts, feeling that collective anticipation, sharing the excitement when the first notes of the overture play, and the show is revealed. It also shows a great deal of trust in coming to a show like this. I think it demonstrates audiences' belief in StoryBook, our high production value, and presenting top talent on our stage. They know that they're going to have a good time, no matter what they see."

This year's Top Secret Musical features 33 performers - some well-known to the community while also shining the spotlight on emerging artists - and a professional production team to guide the way. Committing to being a part of Top Secret is no small feat - the team has only six rehearsals and two full runs on the stage before opening night. It's a testament to the passion and professionalism that each artist brings to the show.

While StoryBook's mandate is to present shows catering to the entire family, Top Secret gives the company an opportunity to perform a musical written for a more mature audience, with the recommended age being 12+. Presented in concert, with choreography added to key moments, it's a combination of professionalism and collaboration with the joyful acceptance that "anything might happen" on the night.

Past productions have included Curtains, Little Miss Sunshine, Titanic - The Musical, Assassins, The Secret Garden, In The Heights and Company.

The funds raised from the two performances will support SBT's Ellie Tims Project. This will enable the company to continue its mission of "Never saying no to a child." The project provides bursaries and scholarships to Calgary's youth, enabling them to participate in Theatre School Programming regardless of their socioeconomic status.
