Steven Carl McCasland Goes Solo at The Metropolitan Room Tonight

McCasland was born and raised on Long Island, and spent his childhood obsessively collective every Cast Recorder (even the illegal ones) ever made. He has spent years studying, worshiping and following the careers of Carol Channing, Elaine Stritch, Edie Beale, Katherine Hepburn, Harvey Fierstein and Patti LuPone... to name a few! And if it wasn't for his love of Stephen Sondheim, he may never have learned to communicate at all.
Join Steven as he revisits his love of musical theater, complete with stories, songs. Growing up a show queen isn't easy and in Mother Wanted Me To Come Out In A Kimono bares it all. He is joined by James Horan on piano. The evening features songs by Stephen Sondheim, Richard Rodgers, Michael John LaChiusa, Harry Chapin, Harold Arlen and more. Steven is the founder and Artistic Director of Beautiful Soup Theater, for which he has directedLiliom, Lift Rags, Moose Murders, Yentl, A Midsummer Night's Dream, A Doll's Life, Macbeth, Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles, Twelfth Night, Hamlet and Crossing Brooklyn. In 2009, Steven was commissioned to adapt poet Jack Wiler's anthologies into a solo performance about Wiler's struggle with HIV. That play, Fun Being Me, was workshopped with Jack in the title role before his passing in 2009. His other plays, When I'm 64, Hope & Glory, The Tip, Opheliacs Anonymous, Fifth Position, Blue, Pulchritudinous (Huntington Award in Playwrighting - First Place), Little Wars and Billy Learns About Captain Kirk have all received productions regionally and in Manhattan. In June of 2011, Steven premiered his original adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Setting Wonderland in the heart of Paris, he also directed the production for an extended run at The SoHo Playhouse. His play neat & tidy brought comparisons to the work of Thornton Wilder and Tennessee Williams, and was named one of Examiner.com's Top Ten Dramatic Plays.Videos
