On April 9th, from 7 to 8:30 PM, Stephen Schwartz will be joined by several stars of the Fifth Avenue Theatre in Seattle to perform select songs from Pippin, Wicked, Working, The Magic Show, Pocahontas and more. Fans will also be able to meet the composer/lyricist at the free event.

5th Avenue Theatre Spotlight Night will be presented in anticipation of the company's production of Pippin, which will be presented from May 2nd through May 21st (Wonderful Town is currently running). In addition to performing some of his own songs, Schwartz will discuss how Pippin is relevant today.

Schwartz stated, "The main story in Pippin is timeless someone trying to figure out what to do with his life. This is a question every generation has to deal with and the answer inevitably involves compromise and learning what's important."

In the show, which was a hit on Broadway when it opened in 1972, "Prince Pippin, son of Charlemagne, embarks upon a quest for true fulfillment, seeking his own corner of the sky. He relishes the glories of the battlefield, savors the temptations of the flesh and embroils himself in political intrigues. But neither war, sex, revolution nor domesticity can satisfy him--or so he thinks," state press notes. The pop-rock score includes "Magic to Do," "Corner of the Sky," "Morning Glow," "With You" and more.

Schwartz, whose Wicked is the biggest musical hit on Broadway, wrote the music and lyrics for Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, The Baker's Wife, Children of Eden and Captain Louie, and contributed his songs to the score of Working; he also collaborated with Charles Strouse on Rags. He has also written for the big screen, with a number of scores for animated films; he wrote music and lyrics for DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt and the TV musical Geppetto, as well as lyrics for the Disney films Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (both with Alan Menken). Schwartz, whose two solo CDs "Relucant Pilgrim" and "Uncharted Territory" feature him performing his own songs, has received three each of the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards and the Drama Desk Awards.
