Sherman Playhouse Holds Auditions For THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE 5/9, 5/10

By:

The Sherman Playhouse is seeking four men, ages 30 to 65, and six women, ages 25 to 65, and 15 girls ages 12 to 16 for the Tony Award-winning comedy-drama, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE by Jay Presson Allen, based on the novel by Muriel Spark.

Set in 1930s Scotland, the play tells the story of a headstrong, passionate, eccentric teacher in a private school for girls. Jean Brodie ignores the curriculum of the staid school and influences her impressionable charges with her over-romanticized world view. Dismissing the more mundane subjects, she teaches them of love, politics, and art. Her pupils are "la crème de la crème." She is a teacher who cares deeply for her girls. The problem is she cares about all the wrong things. Maggie Smith won an Oscar for her portrayal of Jean Brodie in the 1969 movie and Zoe Caldwell a Tony Award in the 1968 Broadway production.

THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE is under the direction of Jane Farnol of Gaylordsville.

Auditions will be held FOR THE GIRLS ONLY on Sunday, May 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Auditions FOR ADULTS ONLY will be held Monday, May 10, and Tuesday, May 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All auditions will take place at The Sherman Playhouse, located at 5 Route 39 North (the intersection of Route 37 and 39), in Sherman, Conn.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. No appointments are necessary. All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. PLEASE NOTE: English/Scottish accents are a must.
