The White Horse Theater Company, known for successful productions of Shepard's True West, A Lie of The Mind and States of Shock, will perform The Late Henry Moss at The Creative Place Theater in NYC, opening January 21, 2005. The play is directed by Cyndy A. Marion, hailed by USA Today as "a budding young Shepard interpreter." In a review of their 2004 production of States of Shock, Andy Propst of The American Theater Web wrote, "It's praiseworthy that Marion and The White Horse Theater continue to explore the Shepard canon. I do look forward to their next production."

Written in response to his father's death due to a drunken roadside accident in 1984, Shepard worked on The Late Henry Moss off and on for a period of ten years before completing the final version in 2000. Perhaps his most powerful and autobiographical work to date, The Late Henry Moss re-explores well-known Shepard themes-- the dark side of the American family, severed relationships, spousal abuse, alcoholism, and loss of identity-- while putting the previously peripheral or alluded to character of "The Old Man", based on his father, center stage.

The Late Henry Moss takes place in familiar Shepard territory- a small run-down shack on the edge of the New Mexican desert. Two brothers re-unite at the deathbed of their destitute father in an effort to solve the mystery of his sudden demise. What ensues is a fierce filial battle where control of the present requires a painful visit to the past.

The play's director Cyndy Marion has been praised by The Village Voice as "a young director making a quiet name for herself as a canny Shepard interpreter." Her directing credits include: States of Shock, A Lie of The Mind, True West, Fool for Love, 12 Angry Men, Last Train to Nibroc, Mud and The Mandala. Cyndy earned an MFA in directing from Brooklyn College.

The White Horse Theater Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to producing plays for the public by and involving American artists. They strive to unleash, investigate and question American social and political issues by re-examining American classics and developing new American voices. This production has been made possible in part through the sponsorship of The Field, and with funding provided by White Horse Theater Company Sponsors.
