Sean Tecson Named Managing Director of National Queer Theater

National Queer Theater has announced the appointment of Sean Tecson (he/him) as its new Managing Director, effective September 1, 2026. A New York-based arts administrator, playwright, and director, Tecson has worked with leading New York cultural organizations, including Ma-Yi Theater Company, National Asian American Theatre Company, A.R.T./New York, and Roundabout Theatre Company.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sean into this leadership role after he first directed for National Queer Theater in 2022,” said National Queer Theater Artistic Director Adam Odsess-Rubin. “Amidst our growing programs and national fight against Trump's National Endowment for the Arts, I'm confident in Sean's abilities to support NQT as we move towards our 10th anniversary.”

Tecson joins NQT after spending five years at Vox Media, a top-10 U.S. digital media company, where he was a core member of the Commercial Operations team. In this role, he focused on employee experience, learning and development, internal communications, and change management.

“I have admired National Queer Theater's work for years, and I am continually inspired by their artistry, advocacy, and commitment to queer community,” Tecson said. “I am excited to now be part of that work myself, bringing my experience in nonprofit leadership and theatre-making to help NQT continue to grow, champion queer artists, and create theater that incites meaningful change.”

A Filipino-American and queer theatermaker, Tecson, who writes under the name Nate Cozens, creates work filled with heart, humor, and early-2000s rom-com earnestness, while exploring identity and the many ways people find connection and belonging. His full-length play Debut: Coming of Age in Filipino America will receive a workshop production with CIRCA Pintig in Chicago this fall. His other work includes directing Banana at The Provincetown Theater and I Like It Rough with National Queer Theater, as well as producing and directing new work at theater festivals including the New York International Fringe Festival.

Tecson holds a B.A. in Theatre and Dance from The University of Texas at Austin. ### About National Queer Theater National Queer Theater is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit harnessing the power of live performance to imagine a more just and joyful future. Working alongside social justice movements, we uplift queer community through visionary theater productions and education programs that celebrate free expression in the U.S. and around the world.
