Sarah Small, master of sonic moving images, multi-genre artist and creator of The Delirium Constructions, invites you to an evening of highly improbable intimacy exploring the interpersonal quests of diverse personalities. In 13 micro-movements, she synthesizes genres from Balkan folk to contemporary chamber, industrial, renaissance, rock, rap, and punk, while interweaving live and recorded electronics, Chinese sheng, strings, winds, and densely packed vocals. Working in her signature Tableau Vivant form, the music is complemented by gestural choreography and projections, including the world premiere of Black Sea Hotel's first music video. Secondary Dominance is a unique multimedia experience that unfolds as lush living pictures rife with honesty and mistakes, ferocity and hilarity.

Secondary Dominance, composer/creator Sarah Small's upcoming collaboration with choreographer Vanessa Walters, director Wade McCullom, and Black Sea Hotel (with debut music video by Josephine Decker) will be taking the stage at the Prototype Festival. The show runs January 6, 7, & 11-14 at 9pm @ HERE Dorothy B. Williams Theatre.

Opera/Theatre Now, launched in 2013 by three fierce women-Kristin Marting and Kim Whitener of HERE Arts Center, Beth Morrison of Beth Morrison Projects-determined to reboot opera for the 21st century, has quickly established itself as "New York's most dependable home for intriguing music theater" (New York Times), and a leader in cultivating diversity, sustainability, and groundbreaking work in the world of contemporary opera-theatre. "If you're wondering if female or non-Caucasian opera composers exist, [Prototype is] one place to find them," recently remarked Justin Davidson in Vulture.
