SONOS Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Erik E. Ochsner will perform two concerts on May 10th and May 13th. The programs include two world premiere commissions: American Reflections by Brian Wilbur Grundstrom, and Concerto for Shakuhachi and Chamber Orchestra by James Nyoraku Schlefer along with the United States premiere of Pehr Henrik Nordgren's Cronaca for Strings.

The SONOS Chamber Orchestra is proud of its longstanding relationship with the Good Shepherd Church, where the program will debut on Sunday, May 10th (208th Street and Broadway, Inwood section of Manhattan) at 3pm, for a $15 'suggested donation.'

On Wednesday, May 13, 2009, SONOS Chamber Orchestra makes its debut performance at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center (Goodman House, 129 West 67th Street, New York, NY) at 8PM. Tickets are $25/$15, available at: www.sonoschamberorch.org

American Reflections is Brian Wilbur Grundstrom's second commission by SONOS. In the style of concerto grosso, the principal string players have solo parts, in addition to being sections leaders.

James Nyoraku Schlefer's Concerto for Shakuhachi and Chamber Orchestra is his first orchestral work. Mr. Schlefer will perform on the shakuhachi for this world premiere performance.

Finnish composer Pehr Henrik Nordgren (1944-2008) composed Cronaca in four movements, building up dynamic tension through contrasts between rather than within movements. This performance represents the United States Premiere of the work.

Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus, (for harp and string orchestra) will also be performed

Conductor Erik E. Ochsner is the founder and Music Director of SONOS Chamber Orchestra. He serves as rehearsal conductor for Academy award/Grammy award winning composer Tan Dun ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"; "Hero"), a collaboration that began in 2002.

In October 2006, Erik conducted the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra in performances of Howard Shore's "Lord of the Rings Symphony," traveling with the production to twenty-five cities. Ochsner previously served as Assistant Conductor Brooklyn Philharmonic under Grammy-award winning conductor Robert Spano, Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony.

Based in Washington Heights, SONOS Chamber Orchestra is devoted to the performance of traditional and innovative forms of classical music in the New York City area. SONOS is committed to perform under-appreciated works in addition to the standard works of the classical repertoire. For complete repertoire and concert performances, visit www.sonoschamberorch.org.
