National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that ROSIE'S THEATER KIDS (RTKIDS) is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Rosie's Theater kids is recommended for a $40,000 grant to support the acte II (a commitment to excellence) program.

A Commitment to Excellence (ACTE II) is Rosie's Theater Kids' scholarship program, offering year-round, intensive musical theater study and academic support for outstanding graduated of the in-school PS Broadway program. The program currently serves approximately 150 students in grades 6-12, over 80% of whom are from low-income families. The program develops lifelong skills and confidence in students, and maximizes prospects for life achievement of at-risk youth.

Acting Chairman Shigekawa said, "The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support these exciting and diverse arts projects that will take place throughout the United States. Whether it is through a focus on education, engagement, or innovation, these projects all contribute to vibrant communities and memorable experiences for the public to engage with the arts."

Lori Klinger, Artistic and Executive Director of RTKids comments: "RTKids is thrilled to continue our partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, which began in 2007. Their support means so much to the success of our programs. It is such an honor to be included in the impressive list of organizations that are recognized with funding at a national level."

Art Works grants support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence: public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancing the livability of communities through the arts. The NEA received 1,528 eligible Art Works applications, requesting more than $75 million in funding. Of those applications, 895 are recommended for grants for a total of $ 23.4 million.
