Clever, charming and a top act in Las Vegas, comedienne Rita Rudner is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, August 23, at 8 p.m. For the past eight years, Rita has been Las Vegas Review-Journal's "Best Comedian in Las Vegas". Rita shares her comedic life with sold-out audiences night after night, and her humor has taken her to Carnegie Hall as well as to TV audiences through her HBO and PBS specials. Special guest is funny lady Christine O'Leary who has performed and hosted lots of Ridgefield Playhouse shows with her own inimitable charm and wit. Bissell House (Main St., Ridgefield) is offering Rudner fans a free glass of house wine or draft beer with dinner when tickets/stubs are presented the night of this event. Because the folks at Clark Construction Company believe in the power of laughter, this show is part of the Clark Construction Comedy Series and is partially underwritten by Adam Broderick Salon & Spa of Ridgefield and Southbury.

Rudner performs at The Venetian in Las Vegas, where over the course of more than 2000 shows in more than a decade, she has sold upwards of one million tickets and become the longest-running solo show in the history of the famous destination. Named Comedian of The Year nine years in a row, Rita Rudner has received The Nevada Ballet's Woman of The Year Award (2006) in the impressive company of other recipients Bette Midler, Céline Dion, Chita Rivera and Twyla Tharp. Rita Rudner's One Night Stand, her first solo HBO special, was nominated for several awards, as were her English BBC/A&E television shows. Born to Be Mild and Married Without Children, were among her other HBO hits.

Besides her impressive ability to stand up to audiences and make them laugh, author Rita Rudner has penned two novels, Tickled Pink andTurning the Tables, and her non-fiction titles Naked Beneath My Clothes and Rita Rudner's Guide to Men have been best-sellers. Her latest work is a book of essays, I Still Have It...I Just Can't Remember Where I Put It. Now that's funny.

For tickets ($58), call or visit the box office at The Ridgefield Playhouse, (203) 438-5795, or order online atridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
