The Scene playwright Theresa Rebeck and film and stage actor/writer Jeff Daniels are among the six finalists of the Steinberg New Play Award, the winner of which will be announced on March 31 at the Humana Festival of New American Plays in Louisville, KY.

The finalists are: Rebeck (for The Scene, Humana Festival 2006), Daniels (Guest Artist - Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, MI), Peter Sinn Nachtrieb (Hunter Gatherers, Killing My Lobster in San Francisco), Catherine Bush (Just a Kiss, New Theatre in Coral Gables, FL), Michael Hollinger (Opus, Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia), and Ken LaZebnik (Vestibular Sense, Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis).

The finalists are chosen by the American Theatre Critics Association, and honors "outstanding new plays produced around the United States, outside of New York City."  A committee of 12 theatre critics chose the finalists from out of 25 eligible scripts submitted by ATCA members.

"The amazing range of work – dramas, fantasies, musicals, farces, melodramas – was uplifting confirmation that theatre remains a vital and evolving art form that can speak to every generation," stated chairman Bill Hirschman.  Lee Blessing's Body of Water was the winner of last year's Steinberg New Play Award.
