Queen City Theatre Co Hosts Auditions For Southern Baptist Sissies 11/21-22

Queen City Theatre Company announces auditions for the comedy Southern Baptist Sissies to be held on Sunday November 21st at 7:00 pm and Monday November 22nd at 7:00 pm. Southern Baptist Sissies, written by Del Shores (Sordid Lives) will now be receiving its Charlotte and regional debut with this production.

Queen City Theatre Company's production of Southern Baptist Sissies will be directed by Glenn T. Griffin, and performances will take place from January 20th 2011 through February 6th 2011 at the Duke Energy Theatre. In this instance we will be auditioning the four leading men who are in their 20's-30's.

Southern Baptist Sissies follows the journey of four gay boys in the Baptist Church. Storyteller Mark Lee Fuller tries to create a world of love and acceptance in the church and clubs of Dallas, Texas, while desperately trying to find a place to put his own pain and rage. The world Mark creates also includes two older barflies, Peanut and Odette, whose banter takes the audience from hysterical laughter to tragedy and tears. With a theme of religion clashing with sexuality, the play opened to rave reviews in Los Angeles during its original run in 2000 and became the most awarded play of the year, winning the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding LA Theater Production, as well as multiple LA Weekly Theater Awards, Los Angeles Critics' Awards, Ovation Awards, BackStage West Garland Awards and Robby Awards.

Note: All men auditioning should be comfortable with their own bodies and not be opposed to touching, kissing, and holding members of the same gender in the cast.

The audition will consist of cold readings from the script.

CAST BREAKDOWN

Mark Lee Fuller - 20's-30's. He thinks too much and dreams of a perfect world.

T.J. Brooks - 20's-30's. Masculine and clings tightly to his beliefs in God's Holy Word (doubles as a Go-Go boy)

Andrew Thomas Ford - 20's-30's. Conflicted who can't pray away the feelings.

Benny - 20's-30's. The effeminate one who has escaped into a world of drag.
