A limited New York audience will soon be able to attend the first reading of Steven Carl McCasland's new play MEMORARE. The reading, which is open to the public, will take place at the Arthur Seelen Theatre (located at the Tony Award-winning Drama Bookshop) on Wednesday, July 15th at 7:00pm. The reading is free to the public.

This past spring, The Clarion Theatre presented five of McCasland's plays in repertory, including the critically acclaimed Neat & Tidy, What Was Lost and Little Wars. He has received high praise by critics and audiences for his representation of historical figures, including Billie Holiday, Gertrude Stein, Laurette Taylor, Tennessee Williams, Rosemary Kennedy and more.

McCasland is the founder of The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective and has brought much talked-about productions of Rags, Yentl, A Doll's Life and Moose Murders back to New York in recent years.

On a hot summer day in 1964, a young Nigerian postulant arrives at a New York City convent for refuge, prayer and a new beginning. The questions that arise in the aftermath of her arrival will change the Sisters forever. Join acclaimed playwright Steven Carl McCasland as he draws back the curtain on a private and devout group with his original and bold play Memorare.

The reading features PennyLynn White (What Was Lost, Louie on FX, Little Wars) as the Mother Superior with Morgan DeTogne (Liliom), Kristen Gehling (Neat and Tidy, Little Wars, What Was Lost), Patti Mariano (Broadway's The Full Monty, Rags, Sail Away, The Music Man and more), JoAnn Mariano (Neat & Tidy), Polly McKie (Little Wars) and Kim Rogers (Little Wars, Der Kanarienvogel). The role of postulant Mary Azu is still to be cast.

While the July 15th, 7pm reading is free to the public, reservations are recommended.
