Planet Connections Theatre Festivity 2010 Announces Their Show Lineup 6/3-27

The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, New York's premiere eco-friendly/socially-conscious theatre festival, is proud to announce this years line-up which include new works, musicals, adaptations, one-acts, solo shows and more. Each show will partner with a not-for profit organization and will implement green-theater sensibility into their productions. This year's festivity, including over 50 productions, will run June 3 - June 27, 2010 at Robert Moss Theater (440 Lafayette Street), The Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street) and Theatres at 45 Bleecker Street (Bleecker Street Theatre and Green Room Theatre).

"Each year we urge our artists to "make a difference" by creating great art while reducing their carbon foot print and benefiting others thru partnerships with not-for-profits," said Glory Bowen, Executive Director. "The strides our artists have made in this area thus far are thrilling. The most creative, inventive people work in theater and together we can educate ourselves and create solutions maintaining gorgeous designs, fabulous reviews, and packed houses. I'm excited for the 2010 season, with a great group of artists in our line-up, I'm pleased to announce that in addition to their efforts in creating eco-friendly theater, all 50 of them, have already selected a charitable organization for which to raise money and awareness."

The scientific community from Los Alamos is preparing for the first testing of the atomic bomb in New Mexico. One of the main protagonists, a mature WOMAN who is invited to a TV show for an interview, pretends to be more personal than professional in an attempt to reveal the intimate side of scientific people. During this interview the WOMAN discovers that the INTERVIEWER is really a writer and both (WOMAN and INTERVIEWER) end up weaving a story of love and treachery as explosive as the historic preamble that launches the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is the result, not exactly of the relationship between the two characters of that story: MARGARET and CHARLES, two successful scientist that despite their intense scientific careers, reveal their intimate limitations where their treachery conjugates with, perhaps, that visage of dirty dealing painted on the face of J. Robert Oppenheimer when he said, at the end of his life, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." This all excludes with a secret lover of which we don't know whether or not is welcome, who makes the relationship between CHARLES and MARGARET explode and represents the majestic events of the biggest discovery for the destruction of our species. As Ricardo Garcia said about his play, "At its depths, perhaps "Manhattan Project" would be no more than a melodrama that the author and the interviewer disguise as a scientific dissertation due to matters of modesty."

Another Place follows Cassandra, a scientist making groundbreaking discoveries about climate change yet incapable of communication. Isolated, she sees the opportunity to create a new universe where she can start over, unencumbered by her failings. Ultimately, Cassandra must choose between abandoning her fellow humans or finding a way to reach them.

In The Wilderness depicts the struggle of teachers and students in an all-girls high school in the South Bronx in the late 1980's, when the neighborhood was rife with crime, crack addictiion and AIDS. Dispirited from the stress of the school year, dedicated young teacher Paul Logan decides trhat if he can get just one student to be successful, then all of the frustrations would be worthwhile. Cynthia Marquez, a smart, sexy sophomore who writes poetry and succeeds in school despite pressures from home and from her neighborhood, seems to be the one Paul is hoping for.

Revolution! is a new musical comprised of three one-acts, loosely tied together. The musicals deconstruct the American, French, and Russian revolution with whimsy and charm, as told through matryoshka dolls, chess pieces, and toy soldiers. The stories trace the pivotal moments of a revolution: the beginning, middle, and end.
