The Chicago premiere of Spaceman, by Leegrid Stevens and directed by Eric Slater, is now playing through June 13, at The Edge. Get a first look at production photos!

In Spaceman, the difficulties of interplanetary space travel are explored in exacting detail throughout this one-woman, sci-fi odyssey. Radiation exposure, long term weightlessness, low light, extensive communication delays and poor hygiene are just a few of the challenges astronaut Molly Jennis must face as the first human to visit Mars. But she soon finds nothing compares to the psychological effects of having so much time alone. Time spent mulling over the decisions she has made and what might be waiting for her when she finally reaches her destination.

[producingbody]’s production of Spaceman takes place in a phone-free environment to provide audiences with an immersive experience that reflects the void of travel into deep space. [producingbody] will utilize Yondr pouches to create this phone free environment; all audience members will receive a Yondr pouch for their device when they check in at the box office. Each phone is placed into a Yondr Pouch that locks when closed and is kept with the phone’s owner throughout the production. All pouches will be unlocked as the attendees exit the production of Spaceman.

Spaceman will be presented without intermission; late entry and/or reentry once the performance has begun is not guaranteed. Patrons are encouraged to arrive at the theatre 20-25 minutes before the curtain so that they have plenty of time to explore the lobby, grab a drink from the bar, use the restroom and secure their phones before they enter the theatre and take their seat.

The cast of Spaceman includes Ashley Neal (she/her, Molly Jennis); Allyce Torres (she/her, ensemble puppeteer/Ari/Ares) and Amy Carpenter (she/her, Molly Jennis U/S).

The running time is 100 minutes with no intermission. The performance schedule is Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $15-45.
