AstonRep Productions has announced it will stage the U.S. premiere of UNCLE VANYA, Anton Chekhov’s classic play in a new adaptation by Liisa Repo-Martell. The production will run June 18 through July 5, 2026 at Edge Off-Broadway Theatre.

Directed by Derek Bertelsen, the adaptation was first produced in 2022 by Toronto’s Crow’s Theatre and later remounted in 2024. The script has been noted for its contemporary language while maintaining fidelity to Chekhov’s original story.

The play follows Vanya, a man reflecting on a life spent managing his family’s estate, as tensions rise among a group of characters grappling with unfulfilled ambitions, desire, and disillusionment.

The cast will feature Rian Jairell as Vanya, Andi Muriel as Helena, Robert Tobin as Astrov, Natalie Hurdle as Sonya, Mary Mikva as Maria, Geoff Isaac as Serebryakov, Liz Cloud as Marina, and Mike Rogalski as Telegin.

The creative team includes Jeremiah Barr (set, lighting, and properties design), Natalie Shoch (costume design), Samantha Barr (lighting design), Melanie Thompson (sound design), Bethany Hart (assistant director and vocal coach), and Nevaeh Mansur (stage manager).

PERFORMANCE DETAILS

Previews will begin June 18, with opening night scheduled for June 19 at 7:30 p.m. The production will run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. through July 5. Tickets are $25 and will be available beginning April 25 online or by phone.
