An array of stars attended the film premiere of Dori Berinstein's documentary ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway on Tuesday, May 1st at the Film Center Cafe (635 9th Avenue between 44th and 45th Streets). The evening was held in support of Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, to which a portion of the film's proceeds go as well and was hosted by Regent Releasing, Liberation Entertainment and BC/EFA.
"ShowBusiness follows four high-profile productions that eventually became Tony Award nominees: a lavish musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Wicked; the controversial Rosie O'Donnell/Boy George collaboration, Taboo; the highly anticipated Tony Kushner/Jeanine Tesori musical, Caroline, or Change and an irreverent musical sleeper hit with puppets, Avenue Q," state press notes. Film and stage actor, Tony Award winner Alan Cumming, is the co-producer of ShowBusiness. The film opens in New York on May 11, 2007 after a special BroadwayWorld.com preview screening on May 10, 2007.
