Photo Coverage: Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett Open THE MOUNTAINTOP

The Mountaintop starring Samuel L. Jackson (DR. Martin Luther King, Jr.,) and Angela Bassett, directed by the Tony-nominated Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun), opened last night, October 13, 2011 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. It was an emotional night and BroadwayWorld was there to caputure it all.  Below, we bring you Angela Bassett and Samuel L. Jackson's premiere curtain call.  The performance marked Jackson's official Broadway debut.

Taking place on April 3, 1968, The Mountaintop is a gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader DR. Martin Luther King, Jr. After delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King (Samuel L. Jackson) retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger (Angela Bassett) arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.
