The Color Purple, began previews at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway at 53rd St.) on November 1st and opened on Thursday, December 1, 2005. BroadwayWorld was there to capture all the night's excitement!

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker that inspired the 1985 Steven Speilberg film, The Color Purple features a score by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, and a book by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Marsha Norman; Gary Griffin directs. The Color Purple stars LaChanze, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Felicia P. Fields, Kingsley Leggs, Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Brandon Victor Dixon and Krisha Marcano, among others.
