Fidelity FutureStage enabled over 600 NYC students from 10 different public schools to get a real view into the world of Broadway theater. Students learn firsthand from industry professionals about acting, playwriting, directing and all the behind-the-scenes production. Each of the participating schools also had a play that was selected to represent them at the gala finale performed by the students. The Fidelity FutureStage Finale took place at New World Stages June 2nd and 3rd.

The school-year program provides a unique playwriting and production curriculum for more than 800 area students, representing 10 underserved inner-city schools. Fidelity FutureStage gives students the extraordinary opportunity to learn from some of the Broadway community's leading playwrights, directors, designers and actors – both in their classrooms and at Broadway theatres – and ultimately experience the thrill of bringing their own creativity to life on a professional stage.

Students learn firsthand from industry professionals about acting, playwriting, directing and all the behind-the-scenes production. They also attend Broadway shows and each student writes a 10-minute play. Ultimately, one play from each school is chosen and performed by the students at the Finale Performance, the students also act, stage manage and assistant direct the plays.

Over the course of the eight-month program, Fidelity FutureStage students learned the art of  playwriting and production through a series of workshops and guest lectures from professionals covering a comprehensive range of theater disciplines. A number of Broadway stars hosted workshops at individual schools and visited with students as they attend Broadway shows throughout the Fidelity FutureStage program. Students have met Kathleen Marshall (GREASE!), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In The Heights), Chazz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale), Roger Bart (Young Frankenstein), Charles "Roc" Dutton (The Piano Lesson) and more. One play from each participating school was selected for the Fidelity FutureStage finale, marking an unparalleled New York theatrical debut for the students.

As the presenting sponsor of the current Broadway production of The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein, and recent productions of Company (2006-07), The Fantasticks (2006-07, Off-Broadway) and Sweeney Todd (2005-06), Fidelity Investments first collaborated with The Viertel/Frankel/Baruch/Routh Group in developing Fidelity FutureStage in 2006.
