One More Productions Holds Auditions for 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, 2/14-15

One More Productions - one of Southern California's leading musical theater companies - announces auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee February 14 & 15 at THE GEM THEATER in Garden Grove. Doors to the theater open at 6:30 for signups-first come, first seen. Callbacks will be Wednesday, February 16 at 8 PM.
 
The character breakdown is:
 
William Barfee: A finalist in last year's Bee, he was disqualified for a health related incident, an event he is all too familiar with.  Must be a strong character actor with impeccable timing.  Should be overweight and have a strong tenor character voice.  Must move well.
 
Olive Ostrovsky: Her mom's in ashram in India, her dad promises that, this time, he'll try to make it.  Her best friend is a dictionary.  Strong character actress with an incredible voice and belt. Must move well.
 
Leaf Coneybear: As just the second runner-up in his district's bee, he really shouldn't be here.  He makes his own clothes.  Very sweet, loving, kindhearted, doltish, brilliant character actor, tenor.  Must move well.
 
Macy Park: Marcy Park: She made it all the way to ninth place in Nationals last year.  She sleeps three hours a night, speaks six languages.  Asian, Piano playing a plus. Very intense and competitive, over achiever, strong vocalist with high belt.  Must Move well.
 
Loggaine Schwartzandgrubenierre: The youngest of the competitors, her stage fathers would make Mama Rose blush.  Very torn, on the brink of a breakdown, always pushing herself.  Strong character actress with impeccable timing.  Must sing well and move well.
 
Chip Tolentino: Last Year's Putnam County champ beginning to learn the ups and downs of puberty.  Strong willed, lack of personal life, fun, competitive, ambitious.  Tenor who sings and moves well.
 
Mitch Mahoney: Fulfilling his court ordered community service, this former felon is now the Bess's Comfort Councilor, handing our juice boxes and a dose of reality to the losers.  African American, rough, strong tenor, must move and sing well.
 
Vice Principal Douglas Patch: The "incident" of five years ago almost forgotten, this Lake Hemmingway-Dos Passos Junior High Vice Principal is now in a better place, thanks to a high-fiber diet and Jungian analysis.  Strong character actor in his mid 40's.  Impeccable timing a must, strong improve skills needed.
 
Rona Lisa Peretti: This former Spelling Bee champ is not only the county's top realtor, she also runs a highly lucrative e-Bay business, selling sensible pumps at sensible prices.  Strong character actress in her 40's +.  Strong singer with high belt, impeccable timing a must, strong improve skills needed.
 
Spelling Bee auditions, rehearsals and performances will take place at THE GEM THEATER located at 12852 Main Street, Garden Grove, CA 92840.  Please prepare a 16 - 32 measure cut; an accompanist will be provided.  Be prepared to dance.  Doors to the theater will open at 6:30pm and sign in will begin promptly after doors are open.  First come, first seen.   Please bring a resume and current photo.  You will not be seen if you do not have sheet music.  Rehearsals will begin on February 21, 2011.  Performances run March 24, 2011 thru April 18, 2011.  Performances take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 3pm.
