Nathalie Joachim Will Premiere LE PRESENT ETERNEL With The New York Philharmonic
The performance will be part of the Sound On series, taking place May 22 in the Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall.
The New York Philharmonic will continue its Sound On series this spring with Sound On: Nathalie Joachim, taking place May 22, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall.
The Grammy-nominated composer and vocalist takes center stage in the highly anticipated world premiere of Le présent éternel, the instrumental version of a new commission created for the Philharmonic. According to Joachim, the work “reimagines, reframes, and reinterprets” music connected to Caribbean, American, and Pan-African freedom movements.
The evening will also feature Lou Harrison’s Concerto for Violin with Percussion Orchestra, a gamelan-inspired work performed by Philharmonic Assistant Concertmaster Michelle Kim-Solman as soloist. The concerto pairs violin with percussion alone, creating a vibrant soundscape filled with rhythmic energy and kaleidoscopic textures.
Conducted by Christopher Rountree, the performance will also feature vocalists Nathalie Cerin, Jade Hicks, and Laurin Talese. Additional creative team members include sound designer Mark Grey and lighting designer Nicholas Houfek.
The approximately 90-minute program will include one intermission. Late seating will not be accommodated until intermission.
Sound On: Nathalie Joachim is part of the Philharmonic’s Sound On series, which highlights innovative contemporary music and boundary-pushing artistic collaborations.
