NYMF to Premiere Spring Concert Series This Month

The first-ever New York Musical Theatre Festival Spring Concert series will feature a wide range of concert performances between March and June. Now in its fourth year, the New York Musical Theatre Festival has presented over 90 musicals in its first three years, including Altar Boyz, [title of show], and The Great American Trailer Park Musical, is widely recognized as a top source of new talent and material.On Monday, March 26, at 7PM at the Zipper Theatre, some of Broadway and off Broadway's finest will perform the songs of music sensation Ben Folds, whose edgy, brilliant lyrics, first-rate musicianship, and pop sensibilities have made him a prominent figure in the music world for over ten years. After a sold out test-run at NYMF 2006, More Unauthorized Musicology of Ben Folds is back, with announced talents so far including Michael Arden (The Times They Are A Chagin'), Stephen Bogardus (Falsettos), Manoel Felciano (Sweeney Todd), Felicia Finley (The Wedding Singer), Liz McCartney (Taboo), Kevyn Morrow (Ragtime), J. Robert Spencer (Jersey Boys), Bob Stillman (Grey Gardens), Lilias White (The Life, Dreamgirls) and Michael Winther (Mamma Mia!). The series will continue in May with Jac Huberman (winner, NYMF's 2006 "Broadway Idol") will perform on May 8 and 13 at Ars Nova (511 W. 54th St) On May 18th NYMF will feature Broadway artists' bands including Tom Kitt Band, Fabulous Entourage, and Freestyle Love Supreme in "Broadway Battle of the Bands," a new spin on the high school-style play-off. This will kick off the Next Link Launch Party Weekend (May 18-20), three days of seminars and networking designed to help writers, directors, and producers network get their shows on the right track for NYMF 2007. The Spring Concert series concludes in June with Undercover Showtunes at the Zipper Theatre, which will feature some of NYC's best performers playing some of the best songs by artists as diverse as Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Stephen Merrit, and the Decemberists.
