NYCGMC to Return to the Whitney for OUR JOY IS A PROTEST: A CHORAL INSTALLATION OF SONG
The event will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The New York City Gay Men's Chorus will return to the Whitney Museum of American Art for the third annual “Our Joy is a Protest: A Choral Installation of Song,” an evening that fills the museum with the power, beauty, and urgency of queer voices.
Taking place on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, this one-night-only choral installation transforms the Whitney into a living, breathing celebration of Pride. Performances will unfold throughout the museum’s galleries, surrounding audiences with music, movement, and collective expression before culminating in a powerful final moment on the museum’s iconic steps.
This year’s installation brings together a dynamic coalition of LGBTQ+ choruses and youth voices, including the Tonewall, Youth Pride Chorus, Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus, and the New Jersey Gay Men's Chorus alongside the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. Together, these ensembles create an expansive musical experience rooted in visibility, resilience, joy, and protest.
Presented as part of the Whitney’s Free Friday Night programming, the event is free and open to the public; however, registration is required. Register at The Whitney Museum.
