NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND Wins Big at the 2017 NoHo Fringe Festival Awards Ceremony

Larry Cedar's one-man stage adaptation, NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND (based on the Fyodor Dostoevsky novel) was awarded BEST ONE-PERSON SHOW (Drama) and BEST DIRECTOR ONE-PERSON SHOW (Pamela Cedar) at last evening's 2017 NoHo Fringe Festival Award Ceremony, beating out strong contender Joe Mantegna and his production, "I'm Not a Comedian, I'm Lenny Bruce" in both categories. NOTES will now return by popular demand for two encore performances on December 22nd and 23rd.

Cedar brings NOTES to The Sherry Theater after last year's highly acclaimed production of his first original stage adaptation, ORWELLIAN, based on the works of George Orwell and winner of the 2016 NoHo Fringe Festival Award for Best Solo Performance. Adaptation of the classic Dostoevsky novel began in February of this year, followed by rehearsals in July and the play's premiere in October.

A rave review by Samantha Simmonds Ronceros of nohoartsdistrict.com says: "Mr. Cedar astonishes with his intimate portrait of sad isolationism, and astounds at his ability to hold an audience spellbound."

NOTES follows the clever, if somewhat tortured musings of Underground Man, a former civil servant who, emerging from some forty years' isolation, attempts to explain his theories on human nature through vivid recollections of a distance past. In an attempt to come to terms with his own despicable nature, he tussles with a variety of misfits and miscreants as they traverse the cluttered hovels of Petersburg, a raucous and liquor soaked cafe, and finally a dark and filthy house of ill repute.

Larry Cedar played opium addicted card dealer "Leon" for three seasons on HBO's critically acclaimed series, Deadwood, and has guest-starred In dozens of other television shows including Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, The Last Tycoon, Trial & Error, American Horror Story, Mad Men, Grey's Anatomy, Community, House, Terminator, NCIS, Enterprise, Alias, The Closer, Gilmore Girls, and Boston Legal. Feature films include The Crazies, Towelhead, Hollywoodland, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and a starring role in the upcoming independent feature, She Sings to the Stars (www.shesingstothestars.com). Theater credits include King Lear (Lear), Billy Bishop Goes to War (Billy), and the debut productions, Discord (as Thomas Jefferson) and Nightmare Alley, both at The Geffen Playhouse.
