GLEE mastermind and multi-award-winning TV creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy has just announced that none other than two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Patti LuPone will be joining the new season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, subtitled "Coven", along with Oscar nominee Angela Bassett.

Earlier today, Murphy Tweeted, "Two legends are joining the cast of American Horror Story: Coven -- Oscar nominee Angela Bassett and Tony winner Patti LuPone!"

LuPone and Bassett join previously announced AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN stars Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, Gabourey Sidibe and an expected further assortment of other performers for the new season of the hit FX horror-themed anthology series.

Shooting is expected to begin later this Spring and the new witch-themed season is set to premiere in the Fall on FX - just in time for Halloween, as usual.

LuPone previously appeared as a special guest on the Season Two finale of Murphy's hit FOX musical dramedy series GLEE.

In discussing the social impact of Ryan Murphy's projects in my recent career-spanning conversation with Ms. LuPone, she revealed that she was a fan of his (just-cancelled) series THE NEW NORMAL and went so far as to compare it to the edgy work of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, which was a predominate topic of our chat: "You know, I think Ryan is really political on THE NEW NORMAL. I don't know if he is as political on Glee and if he is political on AMERICAN HORROR STORY. I think that, probably, The New Normal is his most political show - now, I am talking about in the sense of the anger and frustration that is out there and holding a mirror to the hypocrisy of society, which I think he does brilliantly. And, don't you think that is Brecht & Weill?"

So, what do you think of this momentous news of a Broadway grand dame such as Ms. LuPone getting a little bit witchy?
