Confessions of a Mormon Boy author and star Steven Fales and Tony Award-winning director Jack Hofsiss will appear at Lincoln Center Barnes & Noble on Monday, January 23rd.

The Barnes & Noble bookstore at Lincoln Center (1972 Broadway at 66th St.) will feature Steven Fales, playwright and star of the new Off-Broadway play Confessions of a Mormon Boy, in a reading of excerpts from his award-winning solo play about his fascinating life as both a "Mormon Boy" and a "call boy," followed by a Q&A discussion with Fales and the play's director, Tony Award-winner Jack Hofsiss (The Elephant Man) on Monday, January 23rd at 7 p.m. The event is open free to the public.

The Barnes & Noble reading and discussion will take place just 4 days before the show gives its first preview performance Friday, Jan. 27 off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam St.) in NYC. It will open on February 5th in an open-ended run.

"An inspiring true story told through humor, song and the Book of Mormon, Fales' critically acclaimed solo play explores one young man's captivating journey through excommunication, divorce, prostitution and drugs, as he struggles to reclaim himself, his children and his 'Donny Osmond' smile," state press notes.

Prior to its current Off-Broadway incarnation, Confessions of a Mormon Boy started as a stand-up comedy routine in Manhattan. The full play first premiered to sold-out crowds in Salt Lake City in 2001.

The show has enjoyed successful developmental runs across the country, including San Francisco's New Conservatory Theatre, Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse, Chicago's Bailiwick Repertory Theatre, San Diego's Diversionary Theatre (where it broke box office records) and the Connecticut Repertory Theatre. The production received an Overall Excellence Award at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival.

Fales has appeared opposite Eden Espinosa in the musical Blood and Fire at the York Theatre, The Tempest at Judith Shakespeare Festival, and his stand up act, Oxy Mormon at Caroline's on Broadway, Stand Up New York and Don't Tell Mama. His regional theatre credits include Utah Shakespeare Festival, Connecticut Repertory, Robert Redford's Sundance Theatre, Stages St. Louis and others. His TV credits include the CBS mini series "Perfect Murder, Perfect Town," "Touched by an Angel" and "Miracles and Other Wonders."

The production features set and lighting design by Tim Saternow (Squonk) and costume design by Ellis Tillman (Urban Cowboy). The running time is 90 minutes with no intermission.
