Reprinted with permission from the star's official web site and fan association, is word that Michael Crawford has decided not to reprise his award-winning UK performance in The Woman in White when the show makes its way to America later this year. Reuniting with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Crawford originated the part of Count Fosco in the West End production of the show in 2004, for which he won both the Variety Club, and WhatsOnStage.com awards. There is no official news on casting for the US production of The Woman in White yet, but unconfirmed London reports place other of the show's stars including Maria Friedman, Angela Christian, and Jill Paice being likely to make the transfer. Rumors are currently swirling as to who will land the role of Count Fosco, with the latest word pointing towards another Andrew Lloyd Webber-vet. The show has an out of town tryout scheduled in Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theatre where the opens on November 15, 2005 and runs through January 8, 2006 before making its way to New York.

Reported here on BroadwayWorld.com on May 1st was the news that Crawford's next on stage appearances will be in concert in the United States, with the first of a handful of appearances having been announced
with the New York Pops Orchestra at Virgina's Ferguson Center for the Arts on September 12, 2005. Additional venues are expected to be announced shortly in the September / October timeframe, and it's expected that all US concerts will be conducted by Crawford regular, and BroadwayWorld.com Standing Ovations 3 vet MD, Larry Blank.

"THE WOMAN IN WHITE" opened at the Palace Theatre on September 15. Freely adapted from Wilkie Collins's Victorian thriller, "THE WOMAN IN WHITE" brings to the stage a musical of startling brilliance. A dashing young man, employed as the art tutor to two devoted sisters, is stranded at a remote railway cutting. Out of the darkness looms a woman, a mysterious figure dressed in white, desperate to share a chilling secret.

He and the sisters soon find themselves trapped in a web of betrayal and greed, the victims of a seemingly flawless crime. Together they will need all their resourcefulness and courage to outwit a hugely charismatic and ingenious villain, 'Count Fosco'. As the compelling plot twists and turns, low villainy vies with high romance in a world where nothing is as it first appears and where it is impossible to know who to trust.

This new musical has been adapted for the stage by Charlotte Jones, whose award-winning plays include "Humble Boy", with lyrics by David Zippel, whose credits include "City of Angels" and the Disney classics "Mulan" and "Hercules". Andrew Lloyd Webber has composed the captivating and romantic score. Internationally renowned director Trevor Nunn, responsible for, amongst others, "Cats", "Starlight Express", "Les Misérables" and, most recently, "Anything Goes", directs the production.
