Anthony Mackie, star of the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of McREELE, will star in the Showtime Original Movie "Sucker Free City", directed by Spike Lee on Saturday, February 12th at 8:00 PM EST/PST. "Sucker Free City" is an original film that takes a riveting look at the seductive, dangerous world and life choices of a diverse group of young people inextricably caught up in the unique gang culture of San Francisco. The hard-hitting drama also stars Ben Crowley, Ken Leung, Darris Love, Laura Allen, T.V. Carpio, Malieek Straughter, and Jim Brown with John Savage and Kathy Baker.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presents Anthony Mackie and Michael O'Keefe in the world premiere of Stephen Belber's play McREELE, staged by Tony Award© nominated director Doug Hughes. McREELE began previews on Friday, February 4, 2005 and will officially open on February 24, 2005 at the Laura Pels Theatre (Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre; 111 West 46th Street). The limited engagement concludes Sunday, May 1.

From playwright Stephen Belber (Match, Tape, The Laramie Project) comes a provocative new drama that pits social responsibility against personal redemption. When Delaware journalist Rick Dayne (O'Keefe) meets death row inmate Darius McReele (Mackie), the articles Rick writes eventually lead to Darius's exoneration from a 16 year old murder conviction. Darius's sympathetic past and magnetic personality make him a darling of the lecture circuit, leading to national attention and political viability. With his past and future in the balance, Darius walks the line, as Rick seeks to determine which way he'll ultimately fall.
