Mayor Bloomberg's Office to Present Inside Broadway
Tomorrow, Mayor Bloomberg's Office will present Inside Broadway with a Special Proclamation acknowledging their 30 years of service to New York City. Since 1982, Inside Broadway (Executive Director, Michael Presser) has impacted the lives of nearly one million New York City public school students with its one-of-a-kind programs that aim to enrich, educate and foster new generations of theatergoers and lifelong participation in the arts. And to kick off the official start of their 30th season, the Great White Way's leading arts education not-for-profit has partnered with the Tony Award-winning production of Billy Elliot to offer an exclusive 'Creating the Magic' workshop on Thursday, December 8th at 10am.
This thrilling, interactive, and completely free workshop will fill the Imperial Theatre with over 1,000 New York City public school students that participate in Inside Broadway's programs (this will be many of the students' first time visiting a Broadway theatre). Attendees will get a special behind the scenes look at the world of Broadway with members of the Billy Elliot cast and crew (lighting, sound, stage management and orchestra) all taking part. From exciting set, lighting and sound demonstrations to musical performances from the cast and a Q&A session, 'Creating the Magic' is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
There are also a limited amount of tickets made available to the public for the 12/8 workshop. Tickets will be available the day of the workshop on a first come, first serve basis.
Inside Broadway was established in 1982 by Michael Presser at the invitation of The Shubert Organization. Today, Inside Broadway reaches over 30,000 New York City students each year and develops and produces touring equity musical productions as well as a wide range of educational programs that allow participants to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom.
