The Dramatists Guild of America announces the deadline to select the next group of young writers to participate in the Dramatists Guild Fellowship Program.

The deadline for submissions to the 2009-1010 Fellowship program is Friday, May 9, 2009. Application requirements can be found on the Dramatists Guild website, www.dramatistsguild.com.

The Dramatists Guild Fellowship Program is an outreach program supported by the Guild, with financial assistance from the Dramatists Guild Fund and the Matt and Josephine Grisham Foundation, which helps to train emerging American dramatists and enhance the sense of community among them. The program is unique, not only in the kinds of opportunities it offers, but also because it brings together both playwrights and musical theater writers to discuss their work and common interests. The program is coordinated by Dramatists Guild members Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, Susan Miller and Janet Neipris, and the program director is Andrea Lepcio.

Since 2000, the Fellowship Program has provided mentoring and internship opportunities for emerging playwrights, composers and lyricists. Previous Fellows include Peter Mills (2008 Fred Ebb Award, “Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge” at 59E59 Theater); Sheri Wilner (“Bake Off,” Heideman Award winner at 2001 Humana Festival); Anton Dudley (“Substitution” at Soho Rep); Jakob Holder (“Housebreaking” at Cherry Lane); Sammy Buck and Dan Acquisto (winner of first New Voice Award for “Like You Like It”); Rajiv Joseph (2008 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award); Deborah Zoe Laufer (“End Days” at EST, 2008 Steinberg/ATCA New Play finalist); Adam Gwon (2009 Fred Ebb Award); Brian Lowdermilk (winner, 2005 Richard Rodgers Award); Jeff Blumenkrantz (Broadway’s “Urban Cowboy”); Neil Bartram (Broadway’s “The Story of My Life”) and Rachel Axler, staff writer and Emmy-award winner for Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
