Manhattan Theatre Source Celebrates X-Taneous Combustion Dec 19-21

Ten riotous years after it all began, Manhattan Theatre Source, celebrates its 48-hour play-writing frenzy with ten of the best. X-Taneous Combustion features a favorite choice from each of the last ten years.

Spontaneous Combustion was one of NYC's first speed-play slams, devised as a way of getting the talented volunteers who run the space onto the stage, rather than simply cleaning it. Conventionally writers are teamed with a brace of actors and are sent off into the night with just a first line and topical reference for inspiration, passing the baton to the actors the next day, giving them 24-hours to get the 4-8 minute pieces on their feet.
X-Taneous is a little more predictable than usual, as compiler of the Spontaneous Book and Fringe Festival favorite Ed Malin and participants of the 2010 events picked their greatest hits from the 41-Spon Coms past. With cultural references from the Beatles to Edgar Allen Poe, this show promises to be a barometer of tastes in the downtown arts scene since the turn of the millennium.
The play-fest runs from Sunday 19th thru Tuesday 21st December at 7pm.

There will be a special night of Burlesque to celebrate the season after the Sunday 19 show.
