Juergen Teller, one of the most celebrated photographers of his generation, will open a major solo exhibition at the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art in Athens on June 20. Curated by Marina Fokidis, Juergen Teller: Machoshowcases an introspective survey of Teller's work, including his recent series, Masculine, where the artist has juxtaposed photographs of canonical sculpture and painting against images of his exercise routine. The tension between historical depictions of idealized masculinity and Teller's often prosaic images is a central theme of this group of photographs.

As Teller comments on the series: "I rarely aim to show off my masculinity, or proclaim myself the ideal male. On the contrary, I am often to be seen in effeminate or ridiculous, funny poses."

Juergen Teller: Macho will debut on the evening of Friday, June 20, at 7:30pm. The exhibition runs through October 29, 2014. For more information on the exhibition, please click here.
