Liza Minnelli first met Alan Cumming back in 1998. Cumming has performed both on and off-Broadway. His most recent performance was as in Broadway's Alan Cumming's Macbeth in 2013. He has also appeared in The Threepenny Opera, The Seagull, Macbeth, and Cabaret. This year, Cumming gets to return to Broadway in a new revival of Cabaret as the Emcee. Minnelli told Vanity Fair about the first time she met Cumming and her excitement for Cabaret to return to the stage.

She recalls, "I fell in love with him- as an actor, I think! That was the second revival of Cabaret."

The show then transferred to Studio 54, where it will be opening again this year. Minnelli states, "The 1998 production of Cabaret, by Sam and Rob, is coming back to Broadway this month. With Alan! And with no less than Michelle Williams, who's always so beautiful on the big screen, as Sally. Just like last time, Studio 54 will be turned into the Kit Kat Klub. And I will be there opening night."
