As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, Clint Eastwood is set to direct and produce an upcoming remake of A STAR IS BORN starring Beyonce. Will Fetters will pen the screen play, while Billy Gerber and Jon Peters will produce the film. A fourth version of the classic film has been talked about for quite a while.

Today, Deadline.com reports that Eastwood has broached the subject of the film with Leonardo DiCaprio, who he hopes to cast in the movie. Will Smith had been in talks for the role, though nothing has yet been confirmed except that Beyonce has been cast.

The film follows a few years in the lives of Esther Blodgett (Gaynor), a promising young Hollywood starlet known to her fans as "Vicki Lester", and Norman Maine (March), the older, alcoholic actor who started Esther's career as his own career was fading. Vicki Lester rises to international fame and popularity while Maine sinks into obscurity and suicide. The original 1937 film was produced by David O. Selznick and starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. A Star Is Born has been remade twice, in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

DiCaprio is a three-time Oscar-nominee for his work in Blood Diamond, The Aviator and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Other film credits include The Departed, Catch Me If You Can, Inception, and perhaps most famously, Titanic.
