Lenox, Grant, Harris, Etc. Join Williamstown Blithe Spirit
Performances of Blithe Spirit, Noel Coward's beloved supernatural comedy, begin July 18 on the Main Stage of the Williamstown Theatre Festival. The show runs through July 29.
The cast includes Michael Boatman (Master Harold...and the boys; TV: "Spin City") as Dr. Bradman, Kate Jennings Grant (Between Us, Radiant Baby; film: United 93) as Elvira, Jenn Harris (Modern Orthodox, Once in a Lifetime at Williamstown) as Edith, Jessica Hecht (Julius Caesar, After the Fall; film: Sideways) as Ruth, Adriane Lenox (Tony Award for Doubt, Caroline, or Change) as Mrs. Bradman, Wendie Malick (Burleigh Grime$; TV: "Just Shoot Me") as Madame Arcati and Bernard White (Landscape of the Body; film: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions) as Charles.
Blithe Spirit broke attendance records in the West End when it was originally produced in London in 1941. The play "tells of novelist Charles Condomine, a widower, who invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to give a seance as research for a novel he is writing. Madame Arcati conjures the spirit of Charles' first wife, the selfish and spoiled Elvira who is increasingly desperate in her efforts to disrupt Charles' current marriage," state press materials.
Directing the production is Maria Mileaf (The Argument, Going to St. Ives; Williamstown: A Nervous Smile and The Sugar Syndrome).
Costume design is by Katherine Roth. Lighting design is by Nicole Pearce. Scenic design is by Neil Patel. Sound design is by Fitz Patton.
Blithe Spirit plays performances Tuesdays to Fridays at 8:00, Saturdays at 8:30 with matinees Thursdays at 3:00, Saturdays at 4:00 and Sundays at 2:00. Tickets are $48 to $57 depending on the performance. Tickets are available at www.wtfestival.org, 413.597.3400 and the Festival box office.
