FIRE OVER WATER: a major solo exhibition of the paintings of Len Jenkin is coming to THE SHOOTING GALLERY/ARTS ANNEX at CONEY ISLAND USA, from August 8-24, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, 1-8pm. Opening Night is Friday, August 8, 2014, 5-8pm. The artist will be present.

Len Jenkin is a self-taught artist, who's also a playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. His art is influenced by a career in storytelling, stage design, and directing.

The paintings are mysterious narratives, the stories hidden and obvious at once, shadowy, strange and ambiguous. They often include language as well as images. He is a painter of internal landscapes, of the imagination, and of the American scene.

Jenkin's paintings were recently chosen to be exhibited at the Governor's Island Art Fair, Chashama Exhibition Space, the Wild Project Gallery, NYC, and at the Chocolate Factory, Long Island City, N.Y.

His plays have been done all over the United States, as well as in England, France, Germany, Denmark, and Japan. His most recent international production was in May 2013 in Beijing (PORT TWILIGHT), and U.S. production in Dallas, Texas (ABRAHAM ZOBELL'S HOME MOVIE: FINAL REEL...).

Jenkin's novels have been published by Sun & Moon Press in Los Angeles, and Green Integer Press in Los Angeles. The most recent, N JUDAH, is available at Amazon.com.

Len Jenkin is thrilled to be in Coney Island for this show, a place that has influenced his work from the beginning, and influenced his head and heart since he was three years old. He's ridden on the Cyclone, the Thunderbolt, the Bobsled, the Hell Hole, the Tornado, and was an Official Judge more than once in the early days of the Mermaid Parade, almost getting hit by flying beer cans on a number of occasions.
