Kristin Chenoweth Teases Return to Broadway in New, Original Role?

In an all-new interview with Variety today, Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth discusses her upcoming role as Velma von Tussle in NBC's HAIRSPRAY LIVE! and re-teaming with 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller in AMERICAN GODS.

Asked why she signed on to portray von Tussle in the December 7th live musical broadcast on NBC, Chenoweth shares, "I love the part. She's got a great number called "Miss Baltimore Crabs." It's about living in the past, about her former days as a beauty queen. I also think it's interesting to watch a mom live vicariously through her daughter. That's always been a fascinating relationship - an unfortunate trait that I've witnessed. My challenge will be to make a very unlikable character fun and likable."

Asked which leading Broadway roles are on her bucket list to play in the future, the actress replies, "The usual suspects, like Dolly, "Mame," and "Gypsy."" Yet she goes on to add a possible teaser, commenting, "I think the role that's next may not even be written yet. I have this weird feeling it's being written now."
