Kirkland Arts Center Announces LOOKING FORWARD Exhibition

Kirkland Arts Center and the King County Library System, in collaboration with the City of Kirkland, present Looking Forward in Kirkland Arts Center's Gallery. A panel of architects, designers, and artists will discuss ideas for the Cross Kirkland Corridor. The evening will include a short presentation about the Cross Kirkland Corridor, panel discussion, and audience feedback. The Cross Kirkland Corridor is a segment of the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad purchased by the City of Kirkland to serve as a multi-modal transportation corridor. 

Joan McBride, City of Kirkland Mayor, will make introductions. Ellen Miller-Wolfe, City of Kirkland Economic Development Manager, will facilitate.

The King County Library System (KCLS) is working with Kirkland Arts Center to create a series of opportunities for individuals to make suggestions about the potential uses of the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway corridor.  KCLS has launched an online tool called the Dialogue app(http://532.dialogue-app.com/). Log in to participate in a lively online discussion of future uses of the Cross Kirkland Corridor. A design competition, open to the public, will be announced shortly.

This community engagement program is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Kirkland Arts Center and the 120th birthday of the Peter Kirk Building. 
 
The Cross Kirkland Corridor is a 5.75 mile segment of the former BNSF railroad that was purchased by the City of Kirkland in April 2012 for $5.0 million.  It traverses Kirkland, from the South Kirkland Park and Ride to the Totem Lake Business District.  In the future, it will serve as a multi-modal transportation corridor. The corridor will provide connectivity to schools, parks, businesses and neighborhoods. It will reflect Kirkland's commitment to balanced transportation, economic development, parks, open spaces and recreational services.
