Kandis Chappell to Star in ELEANOR at Rubicon Theatre Company

Rubicon Theatre Company has revealed the cast and creative team for Eleanor, a tour-de-force solo performance about the remarkable First Lady whose legacy continues to inspire the world. The production is presented by Rubicon at the Karyn Jackson Theater in Ventura, California from May 13 to 31, 2026. Eleanor is written by Mark St. Germain (Freud's Last Session, Becoming Dr. Ruth, and Camping with Henry and Tom); directed by David Ellenstein (Artistic Director of North Coast Repertory Theatre whose credits include Way Down River, The Chosen, The Glass Menagerie, Halpern and Johnson and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum); and stars Kandis Chappell (L.A. Drama Critics Circle Awards for The Crucible, Woman in Mind, Shadowlands, and Collected Stories/Broadway: Neil Simon’s Rumors and Getting Away With Murder). Kandis Chappell brings First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to vivid life. Candid and commanding, vulnerable and visionary, from the shadows of the White House to the global stage, Eleanor finds her purpose at life’s greatest crossroads, shaping an extraordinary legacy. The play takes audiences from Hyde Park to The White House and beyond and provides a rich personal account of the Roosevelt family, dynasty and presidency.

The production and design team for Eleanor includes Stephen Gifford, Scenic Designer; Matthew Novotny, Lighting Designer; Aaron Rumley, Projection & Sound Designer; Elisa Benzoni, Costume Designer; Peter Herman, Hair & Wig Designer; Hannah Raymond, Production Stage Manager; Chris Beyries, Production Manager; Stephanie Coltrin, Producer & Casting Director; and J. Scott Lapp, Interim Producing Artistic Director.
