KRONOS AT 40 Set for Lincoln Center Out of Doors, 7/24-28

KRONOS AT 40, twenty-eight concerts and events (July 24-28), curated collaboratively by Lincoln Center Director of Public Programing Bill Bragin and Kronos Quartet's artistic director David Harrington, opens the 2013 edition of Lincoln Center Out of Doors. The mini-festival will spotlight daily appearances by Kronos, on its own and with special guests, includingMariana Sadovska, Magda Giannikou, Jherek Bischoff and Dan Deacon, whose composition features one of his most recent crowd-participation creations: a light-show generated by audience smartphones via his downloadable app.

Opening night, July 24 kicks off with Ritual Cyclical, a world premiere site-specific dance for 80 dancers performing on and around Lincoln Center's Hearst Plaza by Mark Dendy Dance & Theater Projects.The work is set to recordings of signature works from Kronos' Nonesuch catalog.

In addition, Week One concerts include: Red Hot + FELA LIVE! with Tony Allen, Superhuman Happiness and an all-star cast of indie music and "Afro-futurist" artists including Stuart Bogie, Tunde Adebimpe, Kalmia Traver, Baloji and Sinkane and the star of Broadway's Fela!, Sahr Ngaujah. Concert's by My Brightest Diamond; Emily Wells; The Gloaming; Elena Moon Park; Dan Zanes; Ozomatli; Jacob Garchik; on-site, crowd-sourced recording with Found Sound Nation and more. .Asphalt Orchestra, the Bang on a Can experimental street band launched at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, will return with the world premiere of their arrangement of The Pixie's influential album Surfer Rosa, commissioned by Lincoln Center Out of Doors , marking the album's 25th anniversary.

The 43rd season of Lincoln Center Out of Doors runs from July 24-August 11 and showcases more than 100 free performances across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. Twenty-one premieres and debuts highlight this latest edition of one of the country's longest-running, free, summer outdoor festivals.
