Jeremy McCarter Set To Moderate Next Vineyard Voices "The Art Of Casting" 11/2

Jeremy McCarter - senior writer at Newsweek covering arts and entertainment and former New York Magazine critic - will moderate the second VINEYARD VOICES entitled "The Art of Casting" on Monday, November 2 at 7pm at The Vineyard (108 East 15th Street) in Manhattan. The panel will consist of Vineyard Theatre Artistic Director and Hollywood Casting Director Douglas Aibel, Writer/Director Bart Freundlich (TRUST THE MAN, THE MYTH OF FINGERPRINTS) and Obie Award-winning Playwright/Director Adam Rapp (whose play THE METAL CHILDREN will receive a World-Premiere production at the Vineyard).

VINEYARD VOICES - a new series of panel discussions featuring artists and theatre professionals connected to the Vineyard Theatre - offers an opportunity for audiences and artists to go behind-the-scenes and hear the voices of the theatre professionals with insightful, colorful anecdotes to share about working in the theatre, creating for the stage and beyond.

Jeremy McCarter is a senior writer at Newsweek, where he covers American culture and entertainment. He previously was the theatre critic at New York Magazine and The New York Sun, and edited at The New Republic. He is the editor of "Bite the Hand That Feeds You: Essays and Provocations" by Henry Fairlie.

Douglas Aibel has worked in both casting and as the Artistic Director of the Vineyard Theatre for over 20 years. He has worked as casting director for such notable directors as the aforementioned Bart Freundlich (THE MYTH OF FINGERPRINTS, WORLD TRAVELER, CATCH THAT KID, TRUST THE MAN, THE REBOUND, etc.), Wes Anderson (THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS), James Gay (TWO LOVERS, WE OWN THE NIGHT), Tony Bill (FIVE CORNERS), Tim Robbins (DEAD MAN WALKING), Noah Baumbach (THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, MARGOT AT THE WEDDING), and M. Night Shyamalan (THE VILLAGE, SIGNS, THE HAPPENING, etc.).

Writer-director Bart Freundlich has carved himself a substantial niche as an independent filmmaker. His credits include: THE MYTH OF FINGERPRINTS (with Blythe Danner and Julianne Moore); TRUST THE MAN (with Billy Crudup, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and David Duchovny); and the soon to be released THE REBOUND (with Catherine Zeta-Jones) - all of which have been cast by Mr. Aibel.

Adam Rapp - who will make his Vineyard Theatre debut with the World-Premiere of his play THE METAL CHILDREN - is a multi-award winning playwright and director whose credits include: RED LIGHT WINTER, NOCTURNE, FINER NOBLE GASES, BLACKBIRD, MEMBERS ONLY, AMERICAN SLINGO, BINGO WITH THE INDIANS, etc.

VINEYARD VOICES will conclude on Monday, December 7 with Nicky Silver AND HIS LEADING LADIES -- an evening featuring playwright Nicky Silver who has had 6 world premiere plays produced at Vineyard Theatre including PTERODACTYLS, RAISED IN CAPTIVITY, THE MAIDEN'S PRAYER, THE EROS TRILOGY, THE ALTRUISTS, and BEAUTIFUL CHILD. Leading ladies joining Mr. Silver will be announced at a later date.

Douglas Aibel is the Artistic Director of Vineyard Theatre; Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell is Executive Director.

The VINEYARD VOICES Fall 2009 series runs the first Monday of each month at 7pm: (previously October 5, and upcoming November 2 and December 7). All tickets are $20.
