JUST IN! Choreographer Spencer Liff Joins Goodspeed's THE CIRCUS IN WINTER


Choreographer Spencer Liff - hot on the heels of HEDWIG on Broadwaybig Tony win - joins Goodspeed's creative team this fall to bring some hot moves to this cool new musical. Fans of @SoYouThinkYouCanDance will get the opportunity to see his latest steps in action right on The Norma Terris stage in The Circus in Winter.

This NY and LA based choreographer has been nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the smash-hit Fox series "So You Think You Can Dance" in the category of "Outstanding Choreography!" Spencer's work has been seen on the last four seasons of Fox's #SYTYCD, as well as Dancing with the Stars #DWTS , How I Met Your Mother, and Parks and Recreation. His theater choreography credits included Two Gentleman of Verona: A Rock Opera for The Shakespeare Theatre Company of DC, The Wedding Singer and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever at Musical Theatre West as well as Saturday Night Fever for Royal Caribbean, Broadway By The Year 2010 at Town Hall in NYC, and Gypsy of the Year with Daniel Radcliffe. As a performer, Liff appeared on Broadway in 9 to 5, Equus, Cry-baby (2008 Astaire Award Winner for Best Male Dancer on Broadway), The Wedding Singer, Big the Musical, and the 1st national tour of The Will Rogers Follies with Keith Carradine and Dee Hoty. Spencer can be seen in the NBC TV series SMASH, and the recent remake of Footloose. Other film credits include Hairspray (Mikey), Across The Universe (Daniel), and Gypsy with Bette Midler. He has danced for two Presidents of the United States, and performed on The Academy Awards, The Grammys, The Tonys, and The Kennedy Center Honors.

Directed by Joe Calarco and featuring a Book by Hunter Foster and Beth Turcotte and Music and Lyrics by Ben Clark, The Circus in Winter is inspired by the acclaimed novel of the same name by Cathy Day. The production will run this fall at The Norma TerrisTheatre in Chester, Connecticut, Goodspeed's home for new musicals.

Step right up for a brand new musical where legend and lore collide under the big top. Love, lust, betrayal and tragedy unfold in a series of interwoven stories that reveal the private lives of a death-defying acrobat, sideshow African queen, lonely circus owner, disheveled clowns and more. With a rootsy, folk/rock score, this is one musical that you must not miss!

The Circus in Winter was originally developed at Ball State University by students participating in the Spring 2010 Virginia C. Ball seminar led by Beth Turcotte.
