The Tony Awards are on everyone's mind this week and Broadway fans are gearing up for Broadway's biggest night. After seeing their favorite shows perform and take home some awards, fans around the country may be wondering where and when they can catch one of this year's Tony-nominated shows in a city near them. Back to the Future

The National Tour of Back to the Future will open on June 14, 2024 at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square following preview performances starting June 6, 2024 at Proctors in Schenectady, NY. 

The cast will be led by Don Stephenson as Doc Brown and Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, with Burke Swanson as George McFly, Zan Berube as Lorraine Baines, Cartreze Tuckeras Goldie Wilson/Marvin Berry, Ethan Rogers as Biff Tannen, and Luke Antony Neville as Principal Strickland. Ensemble members include Joshua Abbott, Emily ApplebaumTade Biesinger, Ina Black, Brittany BohnLuther Brooks IVAlyssa Carol, Jenny Dalrymple, Laura Sky Herman, Will Jewett, Ben Lanham, Kiara Lee, Dwayne P. Mitchell, Zoe Brooke Reed, Fisher Lane Stewart, and Ross Thompson.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical has a book by Bob Gale, new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard, with additional songs from the film including “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.” Bob Gale is the co-creator and co-writer of the Back to the Future film trilogy and Alan Silvestri composed the iconic film score for the series.

The Broadway production received two Tony nominations, for Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Roger Bart) and Best Scenic Design of a Musical.

Jaja's African Hair Braiding

While not a full-blown tour, the Tony-nominated Jaja's African Hair Braiding will be coming to three cities across the U.S. beginning later this year.

Performances begin on September 6, 2024 at Arena Stage, November 8 at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and January 14, 2025 at Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

Jaja's African Hair Braiding welcomes you into Jaja’s bustling hair braiding shop in Harlem where every day, a lively and eclectic group of West African immigrant hair braiders are creating masterpieces on the heads of neighborhood women. During one sweltering summer day, love will blossom, dreams will flourish and secrets will be revealed. The uncertainty of their circumstances simmers below the surface of their lives and when it boils over, it forces this tight-knit community to confront what it means to be an outsider on the edge of the place they call home.

The play is by the award winning Ghanaian-American playwright Jocelyn Bioh and is directed by Obie winner Whitney White.

The Broadway production received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Play.

The Outsiders

The Outsiders will launch a North American Tour in Fall 2025, officially opening at Tulsa Performing Arts Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma following tech, launch and previews at West Herr Auditorium Theatre in Rochester, New York.

Additional tour cities, dates, and casting for the North American Tour will be announced at a later date. 

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1967, Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade and their Greaser family of “outsiders” battle with their affluent rivals, the Socs. This thrilling new Broadway musical navigates the complexities of self-discovery as the Greasers dream about who they want to become in a world that may never accept them. With a dynamic original score, The Outsiders is a story of friendship, family, belonging... and the realization that there is still “lots of good in the world.” 

The Outsiders features a book by Tony Award nominee Adam Rapp with Tony Award winner Justin Levine, music and lyrics by Tony Award nominees Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay & Zach Chance) and Justin Levine, music supervision, orchestration & arrangements by Justin Levine, choreography by Tony Award nominees Rick Kuperman & Jeff Kuperman and is directed by Tony Award nominee Danya Taymor

The Broadway production was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The Who's Tommy

The National Tour of The Who's Tommy will launch at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) in Providence, RI in the Fall of 2025.

Myth and spectacle combine in The Who’s exhilarating 1969 rock opera, TOMMY—including the unforgettable anthems “I’m Free,” “See Me, Feel Me,” “Sensation” and “Pinball Wizard.” After witnessing his father shoot his rival, the young Tommy Walker is lost in the universe, endlessly and obsessively staring into the mirror. An innate knack for pinball catapults him from reticent adolescent to celebrity savior. 

The musical features the original Tony Award®-winning creators Pete Townshend (music, lyrics, book) and Des McAnuff (direction, book). The creative team includes choreographer Lorin Latarro, music supervision and additional arrangements by Ron Melrose, music direction set design by David Korins, projection design by Peter Nigrini, costume design by Sarafina Bush, lighting design by Amanda Zieve, sound design by Gareth Owen, additional orchestrations by Rick Fox, orchestrations by Steve Margoshes, and wig and hair design by Charles LaPointe. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting/Merri Sugarman, CSA. Additional Chicago Casting by Lauren Port, CSA and Rachael Jimenez, CSATripp Phillips is the Production Stage Manager and Bespoke Theatricals is General Manager. 

The musical was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival on Broadway.

Water For Elephants

Water For Elephants will launch its First National Tour in Baltimore, MD at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in the Fall of 2025. Additional cities and full tour route to be announced shortly. 

After losing what matters most, a young man jumps a moving train unsure of where the road will take him and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, and a life—and love—beyond his wildest dreams. Seen through the eyes of his older self, his adventure becomes a poignant reminder that if you choose the ride, life can begin again at any age. 

Water For Elephants  is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award winner Jessica Stone, with a book by three-time Tony nominee Rick Elice adapted from Sara Gruen’s novel, with a soaring score by the acclaimed PigPen Theatre Co., and choreography by Tony Award nominees Jesse Robb (Miss Saigon) and Shana Carroll.  

The musical was nominationed for 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
