Hamlisch is Guest Speaker at Friar's Club Luncheon, May 18

The Friar Club will welcome A Chorus Line composer Marvin Hamlisch as the next guest speaker for its Celebrity Luncheon Series on Thursday, May 18th.  The event is closed to the public.

Theatre critic/Theatre World Awards president Peter Filichia will interview Hamlisch, who will play piano as well as speak at the event. He will discuss his life and times in TV, theatre, movies and concert, as well as some of his professional and personal frienships with legends such as Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli and Groucho Marx.

Randie Levine-Miller will produce the event, which will begin at noon with lunch. The program will follow at 1:15 PM.

The winner of three Oscars, four Emmys, three Golden Globes, a Tony and the Pulitzer Prize, Hamlisch has won distinction both in Hollywood and on Broadway. His most famous film score is perhaps for The Way We Were (he also wrote the title song, and other film credits include The Sting, Sophie's Choice and The Mirror Has Two Faces. In addition to A Chorus Line, Hamlisch (who also has a notable career as a conductor) composed the music for They're Playing Our Song, Smile, The Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success.
