The hilarious one-woman tour de force HYPOCRITES & STRIPPERS will be part of Downtown Urban Theater Festival at HERE Arts Center (145 6th Ave, New York, NY 10013) on May 21 at 8:30 PM--one night only.

Both a play and an animated short, HYPOCRITES & STRIPPERS has been viewed at film festivals in Chicago, Tampa, New York, and Austin and was nominated for a Best Actress Artsie. Written by Kim Yaged, a nationally-acclaimed writer best known for her dance piece AMERICA, which won the Audience Award at the Downtown Urban Theater Festival in 2009,

HYPOCRITES & STRIPPERS is a comedy about selling sex and selling out.

The show stars Sofia Jean Gomez. Recent credits include Signature Theatre Company's production of Angels in America: Part 1 & 2--winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Revival, Tartuffe at Berkeley Rep, and The Tempest at The Shakespeare Theatre DC.

Directed by Erik Pearson, a Brooklyn-based director and projection designer, recent projects include Spike Lee's "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth" on Broadway/HBO, Bill Irwin and David Shiner's "Old Hats" at American Conservatory Theater, and John Glover's new opera "Lucy" for Milwaukee Opera Theatre.
