Guggenheim Global Art Initiative Travels To Latin America

NEW YORK, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum today announced that Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today, the second exhibition of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, will travel to the Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from April to June, 2015, and the Museo Jumex in Mexico City, Mexico in Fall 2015, following its presentation at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from June 13 to October 1, 2014. Organized by Pablo Leon de la Barra, Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Latin America, Under the Same Sun examines the most significant contemporary art practices in Latin America today. The Museu de Arte Moderna is one of the leading modern and contemporary art museums in Brazil and has been a pioneer in education in museums in the country. The Museo Jumex is part of the Fundacion Jumex Arte Contemporaneo, which was established to promote the production, analysis, and research of contemporary art, and to develop new ways to support art and culture.

The New York presentation of Under the Same Sun features nearly fifty contemporary works by forty artists and collaborative duos representing fifteen countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico (United States), Uruguay, and Venezuela.

For each of the presentations at MAM and Museo Jumex, Pablo Leon de la Barra and the Guggenheim team will collaborate with museum staff to customize the exhibition for the local audiences. In addition, education leaders from each institution will work together to create tailored materials for students and the general public both at the museum and online.
