According to Andrew Hartman of MovieMusicals.net, a DVD re-release of Grease is headed for stores.  The DVD will hit shelves on September 19th.

Titled the "Rockin' Rydell Edition," the remastered Special Edition DVD's bonus features will include a Rydell sing-a-long, 11 deleted/alternate/extended scenes, memorable moments from the 25th anniversary DVD Launch Party, a "Memories from John & Olivia" featurette, a "Moves Behind The Music" featurette, a "Thunder Roadsters" featurette, and more.

The 1978 film version of Grease (featuring some of the songs from the original Broadway musical hit, as well as some new ones) stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as Danny and Sandy, who once had a summer fling and who find themselves fighting rekindled feelings when Sandy becomes a foreign exchange student at Rydell High.  The film, which was directed by Randal Kleiser, also stars Stockard Channing, Didi Conn, Jeff Conaway, Dinah Manoff and more, with performances by Eve Arden, Frankie Avalon, Joan Blondell and Sid Caesar.  The film's songs include "Summer Nights," "You're the One That I Want," "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee," "Beauty School Dropout" and "Greased Lightening."  It spawned the sequel Grease 2.

Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease opened on Broadway in February of 1972 and ran for 3,388 performances.  A 1994 revival ran for four years, as well.

The Grease "Rockin' Rydell Edition" DVD will be released by Paramount Home Entertainment.
